A Long Time, but Not Unproductive

It’s been a while since I have updated this site, but I have not been idle. This past year I have been working on a TTRPG that I hope to integrate into my worldbuilding and the setting of upcoming stories. It’s been a wild adventure since I randomly decided to create one 3-4ish months ago. It’s been a learning experience doing it from the ground up and creating mechanics to tell a story that I want to tell.

I call the TTRPG Aeons of Zelastar to represent its flexibility in telling a story. It’s a zero-to-hero experience where you start with mundane paths in life like baker, gravedigger, alley cat, archer, artisan’s apprentice, gambler, and more, and eventually find your path into becoming a knight, plague doctor, warlock, courtesan, warrior, and more. I call them Lifepaths, since it’s not supposed to be a set class, and a stepping stone to how you want to build your character. I especially wanted cooking and alchemy to have an in-depth crafting system that’s optional, and you don’t need to engage with it if you don’t want to.

It’s definitely been an undertaking, but worth it. I’ve been trying to keep the wording short and straight to the point. It’s been a learning experience and I hope it will be able to tell the stories that people want to tell about their character and allow creativity and clever tactics to thrive.

After all, who doesn’t want experience their harlot becoming a paladin.

Besides that, it’s been slow going with my second novel, most of my energy has been working on Aeons of Zelastar, but I have an idea of how I want things to play out. Of course, who doesn’t want to see righteous violence against those who commit atrocities fraught with arrogance? It involves a lesbian from a former-soviet union wielding a military shovel against slavers in a dark fantasy world that they were tossed into upon their death. A story of found family, questionable healing, realizing one’s own impulsive sacrifices affects the people around you, and, of course, eviscerating slavers.

The novel is longer than I expected, but not too long. It’s reaching a point of the “end game”, where it sets up a lot of characters that can be used for future stories and make it feel alive and giving them their own unique feelings and perspective. And the “end game” will involve a deep tragedy that will still hold hope in its heart. I wholly believe a dark story should always have hope at the end.

Now, this website has stories on it that I need to update, because reading it again makes me want to claw my eyes out. I know I should “let things be” to see how far I have come, but I just can’t in this case. So I will be working on getting that out eventually. I have so many stories I want to tell, especially with them painting a living setting, but it’s been at a crawl over the years with motivation and time. Yet I feel sparks returning, albeit gradually, and hopefully find itself ignited.

I will not let my wants rot unwritten.

Thanks for reading. 🙂
